ANNUAL MEETING
WHAKATANE ROD & GUN CLUB A SUCCESSFUL YEAR REVIEWED The annual general meeting of the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club took place in the County Council Chambers on Tuesday evening, some twenty members of the club being present. Mr J. D. Rivett, President of the Club, was in the chair.
After the minutes of the last annual and inaugural meeting of the club, held last year, had been read, the President commented on the question of the ammunition supply. Last year, he said, the Government had promised that three boxes of cartridges would be available to each license holder. Unfortunately, it had been unable to fulfill that promise, but the Whakatane Club had managed to provide at least two boxes for each holder. The same trouble might be experienced this year, but he hoped that it would be possible to overcome it in the same manner as it had been previously. Mr C. L. Hudson extended thanks, on behalf of the club members to Mr Rivett for his efforts to procure ammunition during 1945. In place of the usual balance sheet, a statement of receipts and payments was read, showing that the club had a. balance of some £37. A letter was also read from the Hon. Auditor, Mr L. R. Spring, explaining the reason for there being no balance sheet, and asking that the club open a set of books, and that a more careful record of receipts and expenditure be kept in future, in order that it would be possible to compile a balance sheet next year.
The club decided to recommend to the incoming committee, that it adopt the auditor’s suggestion.
President’s Report
The report, which the President presented, showed the successful progress made by the club during the first year of operation. They had been fortunate, he said, in anticipating the coming of peace by some few months, and activities had been well under way when the men started to arrive home from overseas. The Smoke Concert, which had been held shortly after the inaugural meeting had been a pronounced success, and he trusted that it would become an annual fixture. The club had received good support locally, and recently had been presented with a Championship Cup by Mr George Lodge. Mr Keen, Conservator of Fish and Game, Rotorua, had also been most helpful. The club had lately acquired grounds from Mr Goile, and were contemplating a ten years lease of the property. Two dog trials had been held, and enthusiasm was being shown in the fishing contest. Concluding, he thanked the Committee and Officers for the support they had lent him during the past year.
