Dear Sir

Letters to the Editor must be clearly written ion one side of. the paper only and where a nom-de-plume is used the name of the writer must be included for reference purposes. The Editor J reserves the right to amend or withhold any letter or letters.

-SPORTS FIXTURE CLASH Sir r —ln reply- to your writer, E. Semmens, I wish to inform you that she is placing the boot on the wrong foot regarding the allegation that the Murupara Committee arranged a Gymkhana on a date set by the Taneatua Committee, and perhaps a little explanation will clear the matter.

On May 6, 1945, an Association of all Gymkhana Committees was set up in the Bay of Plenty, and Taneatua along with other committees was asked to join. The aim of the Association was to draw up rules for the successful running of a Gymkhana and also to allot dates on which each committee could hold its meeting without clashing with other committees in the surrounding districts.

Now, Sir, to this appeal the Taneatua Committee did not deem advisable to join up, nor did they even acknowledge a letter which was sent to them, but the Murupara Committee did, and at a meeting of Delegates of the Association held at Matata in November 1945, Murupara Committee was allocated Saturday, March 16, 1946, as its Gymkhana date for the current season, and it was very soon after this that its first posters were on display throughout the district. In conclusion, Sir, I .would suggest that had the Taneatua Committee seen fit to join the Association, as did the majority of other committees in the district, then perhaps this unfortunate clash would' not have occurred.

Yours etc., J. W. PATERSON, - Honorary Secretary.
