WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

THORNTON BRANCH MONTHLY MEETING The February meeting of the Thornton Women’s Institute was held under the trees at Mrs Currie’s home at Thornton. The meeting was well attended and the usual order followed. Mrs Robb presided. The roll call was “A Gardening Hint”

When nominations were called for officers and committee for 1946 it was suggested that as the branch had been in existence for only a few months, the present members be re-elected. It was decided that the present officers be asked to carry on and that no election be held at next meeting. The schedule for the forthcoming Eisteddfod at Whakatane was read and possibel entries for the branch discussed. Afternoon tea was served in the

garden—the lucky cup being held by Mrs Brashier. A shrub guessing competition was afterwards won by Mrs Law and Mrs Learning. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Currie for the use of her garden for a pleasant afternoon. The competition results were as follows: Best flower, Mrs Law 1, Mrs Chitham 2. Best vegetable, Miss Schneller 1, Mrs J. Branch 2. Basket of assorted fruit: Mrs Law Open jam tart, Mrs McDonald 1, Something from patchwork: Mrs McDonald 1, Mrs Branch 2.
