LARGE ATTENDANCE AT LESSONS
. Tlie. Learn to Swim which was conducted by the Whakatane Amateur Swimming Club recently was success fill beyond all expecta-i tions the number of members and
others who attended to participate in the lessons Tanging from fifty to seventy. The behaviour of the parr ticipant.s was good, and discipline was readily maintained throughout. That the object of the week was achieved was evident from the fact that a large percentage of hitherto noiKswimmcrs now have, at least a firm grounding in the fundamentals and several children who had never been swimming were at the conelusion quite at home in the w T ater # and were proceeding to master the strokes.
Adidt classes, were conducted in the and these also were successful. As a fitting conclusion to the week's activities, an afternoon of impromtpu fun was provided for the younger participants this drawing a large crowd of parents and onlookers including His AVorship the Mayor.
As stated the whole week was a pronounced success and it is trusted that next a further such effort will be promoted by the club.
