SHED ACCOMMODATION
PROBLEM AT WHARVES EXTENSIONS TO BE CARRIED OUT Tn response to instructions the Consulting Engineer (Mr C. H. Brebner) submitted data to the Whakatane Harbour Board last Friday by way of providing extra storage space on the Board's wharf. sheds. The total cost for all the suggested. improvements involved £3360, but the Board decided to call tenders for three items only involving an expenditure of £IO2O. Mr Brebncr's proposals included extending No. 2 shed to the utmost space available (£2770) widening No. 1 shed (£2OO) } widening No. 2 shed (£300) constructing t a Hide Shed (£520) and rebuilding loading bank (£9O)/
The chairman Mr W. R.. Boon, .said he agreed with the less expensive proposals and urged that they should be gone on with. The larger proposition however was something lor future consideration. Many things might occur during the year as far as shipping was concerned and it was' possible that Messrs Parry Brothers might start up again, and in that case the Board might be compelled to build a new shed altogether.
Mr G. Brabant favoured the ex< penditure of the larger sum which he claimed was urgently needed and the structure would be inevitable-in any case .
The Board decided on the three shed extension items which will be carried out as soon as a permit is obtained.
