SUCCESSFUL SPORTS

YOUNG VETERANS QUEEN

ALL ROUND GALA EFFORT FOR PRINCESS RAM The only disappointing feature -about Saturday's Sports, Meeting and Gymkhana held in the interests of • the Young Veterans candidate in the .K.S.A. Welfare Appeal, Princess

Pam was the comparatively poor attendance on the part of the general public. The sports and tue novelty • events were in every way well up to standard hut this; to a crowd which only yielded a £SO gate Avas; .a most discouraging feature lo the hard working committee behind, the • event. However the sporting instincts of the crowd which did assemble were not lacking j and we gather from the Secretary that, the various side shows and competitions •also on the grounds did. extremely well, and the net figure, alter pay\ing all expenses was very tory.

The highlight of the day was with»out a doubt, the girls' marching -competition iii.; ■which three teams •competed. Smartly arrayed in their

special costumes the teams made an j .attractive picture as they stepped to the lively measure of the Pipe Band. Each was greeted with warm . applause as it passed the crowd, and •the winners the Basketball team thoroughly deserved their total of, 75 points. This team should go a long

way a feature being their distinctive costume of loose beret and -swinging blue sashes. The Sailors team (Miss 1. Martin) were .also a smart outiit and deserved the warmest praise for their display. The 'Pattersons' team once again stepped out well and deserved the tie with the Sailors of (s'B which -they Were awarded. On the Athletic held, some splcn,--did races were witnessed. There can he no doubt that the amateur -organisation in this town has already done much for held sport, and their influence was well to the fore •on Saturday. It Was pleasing to note the number of lady who -are coming more and more into the

forefront of sport in this town. En,thusiasm was the Keynote of all • events and the crowd was whipped to a line state of excitement in the .relay events which concluded the .meeting. We extend our warmest congratulations to Princess Pam's hardworkSvorking committee, and express the .'hope that their future efforts will be met by a greater measure of public support which they undoutbedly deserve.
