CARNIVAL CLIPPINGS
R.S.A. MEMORIAL FUND
RANDOM DISTRICT PARS
(By “Roy. Rep.”)
The whole town and. district has been caught in a gruelling cross, lire of entertainments as the opposing factions of the R.S.A. Queen Carnival vie with: each other in boosting their candidates to the top of the tree where they will be- in a position to snatch the crown and the honour that goes with it.
The most recent big hit was the Gala staged at Ohope Beach on Anniversary Day by the Committee supporting Princess Beverley. The committee raked in plenty of sugar, and didn’t in the least mind the sand mixed in with it.
Princess Betty’s Committee at Awakeri, is planning a stock drive and all supporters in that district are asked to dub in an odd head or two. The whole thing should be most interesting. Cattle intending to take part in the drive are asked to either contact one of the canvassers, or ring 188 U direct. All and sundry are urged to purchase a ticket on ‘Otoka Whiz Bang’ the latest brain child of. the Awakeri Committee. (We can’t let on yet but we. hint: A polyprototlonta type of pterygopalatine with bells on working something after the style of the reconeilation of atoms in the blast from an atomic rocket).
Kdgecumbe is getting well ahead and has booked March 2 for a Grand Carnival. This is', expected to he the last word in Grand Carnivals with trimmings galore, stalls, chopping. refreshments athletics and much more. We notice the Edgecumhe Committee getting in on the ground floor with a little high pressure advertising. The conspirators are still working out a hot plot for the day 1 .
Not content with driving stock around Awakeri has planned five dances. (This is the. Plan of. the Planners, not of the Wallflowers of Wall Street, the latter being out to cripple the nation, the former merely the district). Of the aforesaid dances, the first took place, on Saturday night—the lonlicst night of the week. (Ma, Pa. if you don’t get this ask daughter). It was a great success and all who attended, are eagerly looking forward to the next four to be held on February 1(5 and March 2 16 and 80.
Taneatua folk we understand, * have heen bitten by the Princesses so to speak ? and have decided to liurl themselves into the game and ‘wipe’ the district. Their princess at the ment is trailing round disguised in sackcloth and ashes f playing the part of a humble hermitess. However she will soon be called forth to lead the huge committee (including both brains and brawn) in a victorious trample over her opponents.-
Wainiana has its secret hidden deep within its soil. An outbreak'of Princessitis is expected to occur at an}’ moment. It has been found difficult to control the epidemic in all other districts and it seems likely that Waimana wil lind it impossible to remain aloof.
From the ditches and swamps j the parched areas and the jungle wastes the hush telegraph (which we intercept periodically) brings forth amazing information. We plugged in yesterday and heard: “Hear Ye ? this is what goes on. Vast sums of cash are being collected by the Princesses’ Committees, and even no\v a small portion has been handed to the central committee. Hut there beith a Scrooge in each whose grasping hand is clinging tightly to the intending not to part up till the last moment thereby hoping to pull a fast one. That is the end of ye news.”
Flash : Edgecumbe Committee is holding a beer drinking competition. A what ! That’s right, but whoever heard of a Princess sponsoring a beer drinking competition? We intend to get to the bottom of this. The whole idea is quite staggering. It can’t go on! But it seems as if is going to. Anyway we’ll find out more about it and pass the information on forthwith.
