REHABILITATION AID
FURTHER AUTHORITY DELEGATED
DISTRICT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEES
The Rehabilitation Board lias decided to delegate a further authority to district executive rehabilitation committees in a number of matters varying from building sections to loans to purchase trucks says a statement from the Rehabjli r tation Department. These, district executives already possess considerable authority, including the right to grant all types of rehabilitation
loans within the limits laid down. Under the new extensions of authprity the committees can now deal with applications to purchase sections in advance of the actual building of the dwelling and to lix the terms of repayment of the loans so granted. It is considered desirable however, that such loans should be repaid over a relatively short term commensurate with the ex-service-man applicant’s ability to paj- after taking into account the expenses Avhich, until his proposed building operations are completed, he has to meet for the. accommodation of his family. Other matters in which further authority is delegated are the making of loans on leasehold securities
under certain conditions, applications for loans to purchase trucks where the proposition appears sound and the approval in necessitous circumstances «f grants up to £3O as part of the assistance available to eligible ex-servicemen or widows of deceased servicemen in respect of the purchase of furniture, again •subject to certain conditions. There are at present nine, rehabilitation district executive committees
throughout New Zealand vested with authority to approve loans. The process of decentralisation is further helped by the existence of the many rehabilitation committees whose recommendations go forward continuoiisly to be dealt with by the district executives.
