Tiie victory of the Gisborne owned Golden Souvenir in the Wellington Cup proved the claim that he is the Dominion’s best stayer under big weights. In a field of eleven he wasc ontent with running along for over a mile and a half in ninth place. Entering the long straight Irish Note, Saludos Lang d’Or and Golden Souvenir were in this'order. Half way down the latter got to the front and placed the issue without doubt. In the last few weeks he has been victorious in the Buchanan Memorial Cup, New Zealand Cup t Churchill Cup. Clifford Stakes and Wellington Cup, quite a record for a front rank performer. He was second in the Canterbury Cup and Auckland Cup, both events lie should have won.
