WEEKEND SHIELD GAME

CLOSE WIN FOR WHAKATANE

Excellent weather conditions favoured the annual Shield game between Whakatane and Taneatua which was played off on the Whakatane greens last Saturday. The result a win on the aggregate for Whakatane by only live points was a true indication of the keenness of the play and the sporting atmosphere in ■whicli all games were played. Details of tlie play were as under Taneatua players being, mentioned first in each instance:—

Kohuniu Kempton, Torrie and Foster 19 lost to Morpetft, McKenzie, Smoljan and Hayward 22. ' Rangi, Gee, Hearle and Hunt 25 beat Thompson, Alexander, Oswald and Burgess 8. Grace, Moody, Rae and Ferguson 18 lost to Bennett Coates Comer and Marsh 22.

Green Black, Cradwick and Lawn 12 lost to White, Warner, Milne and King 27.

Total: Whakatane 79, Taneatua 74

Feathers Game Taneatua (Ricketts) 24 beat Whakatane (Bullot) 23.
