WAIMANA v PAROA

Inva competition match for the Clarke Shield played at the Wha-t katane Domain at the wcelc-end a draw resulted between Paroa and Waimana. Waimana definitely had the better of the game, and on the day Paroa was outplayed. It was unfortunate that Waimana arrived late for play as the additional time would have definitely decided the game in their favour. An outstanding performance was put up by Wells of Waimana who scored a brilliant century. He only gave really one chance just before he reached 50 but it was -misjudged.

In his score of 115 not out he collected 20 fours and was. never troubled by the Paroa attack. Several other Waimana batsmen reached double figures and the total reached the good score of 197 runs. The wickets were taken by Malaqui’n 4, McGougan 3 and Smith l 2. Paroa opened just after lunch but with the exception of Martin and Code who put up a good stand the other batsmen failed badly and when time was called Paroa had lost 7 wickets for 44 runs. Menzies bowled well to take, 4 wickets for 13 runs.

The Domain was in fairly order the outfield being very fast, but the approaches to the wickets were bad. WAIMANA (Ist innings)
