QUEEN CARNIVAL
R.S.A. MEMORIAL EFFORT ITS AIMS AND OBJECTIVES “Far the cause that lacks assistance, For the wrong that needs resistance For the future in the distance, And the good that we can do.” The Returned Services’ Association Queen Carnival is now in full swing and it is considered that a lew .details of the objects of this effort to raise funds would be appreciated by the general public, both town an<J
country. The old Diggers have, unfortunate memories of the hard times which - eventuated about six years after the last war and are determined if effort can do so, that tbe. Diggers of this war shall not be placed in the same unfortunate position of having to try and keep himself wife a.nd family on tbe large sum of £1 5s per week which many of the Old Diggers had to do during the slump period. During the slump period after the last war, this Association was not a very financial position, and was not able to give the assistance. to fellow members that it would have desired. Having all these tilings in mind the Old, Diggers are determined to make a very great effort so that the same position cannot arise again in respect to the fellows who have been overseas. The R.S.A. is well aware that • during''the war period a great number of calls have been made on the - Home Front, and the Old and Young Diggers are very thankful, hut it must he now realised thal bad there .been no Old or Young Diggers- the people on the Hpme Front would not have had anything to give. They
possibly would have lost all and been in a very bad position. If both the country and the townspeople just think for a minute, what this country would have been under some other nation they will realise *liow thankful they have to be to the servicemen and women who have : given the. best years of. their lives for the nation. The R.S.A. is running a Queen Carnival, comprising Princesses in the country districts and Princesses in the town. The country Princesses will be introduced at the various functions which arc taking place. Just at this moment we have not beard who are the Princesses for Waimana and Taneatua, but we trust that they will be notified in the very near future. This appeal is right throughout the Whakatane County and we feel assured that everyone both in tbe Borough and country will support it to the best of tlieir ability. It is known that the Patriotic Committee, has a fairly substantial sum of money to be expended, but that amount would not be in any measure sufficient to relieve all the cases of necessity arising among the servicemen and women as well as the widows and orphans, of deceased servicemen, should the same unfortunate period as previously mentioned occur again. As a final appeal let everyone Doth of Borough and County, support their particular Princess to tlie utmost of their financial ability.
