PAPER MILLS OUTPUT SUFFERS

ELECTRIC ALTERNATOR TAKES FIRE

In tlie early hours of Monday morning an electrical fault occurred in one of tlie alternators in the power station of the Whakatane Paper Mills, as a result of which the machine was damaged by fine. At the present time the alternator is being stripped for examination and until the damage lias been assessed it will not be possible to estimate the length l of time required for repairs. Meanwhile the Mill is continuing operations although at a somewhat reduced rate output. No damage to any other equipment avus sustained.

The Mill possesses twin alternators each capable of generating a capacity of 2500 kilowatts. The breakdown of one lias as a result seriously cramped Avorking operations and it becomes imperative to have the repairs completed as quickly as possible in the interests of the industry and the outside demand.
