Measles Epidemic

Many districts in Auckland are in the throes of the measles epidemic though no figures are obtainable as the disease is not notifiable. Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health, stated that he had received no requests from headmasn ters of schools for assistance,, and all his department could do was to advise the public to take the usual precautions. The Meadowbank School closed a day earlier, as dozens of its pupils are reported to be suffering from measles and two couutry schools in the'Education Board’s area have been shut down owing to the epidemic. Many parents have had to cancel holiday arrangements because of the need for keeping children affected in isolation.
