SCHOOL BREAK-UP FUNCTIONS
The Nukuhou School break-up Junction was held in the school rooms recently. The rooms were beautifully decorated with streamers, silver bells and flowers, and a lovely Christmas Tree laden with presents took pride of place, and was greatly admired by all present. The evening •was spent at dancing for children and adults and the school children sang carols and gave excellent exhibitions of Folk Dancing. The novelty dances were won by Gavin Seeker Ivy Proffitt, Ann Mottram and T'ohu Collier (Captain Jinks),, and the Monte Cai’lo was won by Margaret Sinclair and Tom Robinson. The. following children were in fancy costumes and all looked very well indeed: Meryl Robinson, Island Girl; Mavis Proffitt, Picture Book; Ivy Proffitt, Butterfly; Patricia Eagle Party Frock; Annie Tura, School Girl; Milly Mapu, Party Frock; Lena, School Girl; Joan Pike, Dutch Girl;’ Ann Mottram, Sailor Girl; Gilda Mottram, - Fairy; Joy.celyn Wylde, Matron; Bonny Collier, Skipping Girl; Evelyn Ball, Witch; Helen Mottram. Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary; Leonic Burnett, Soldier Girl; Amy Robinson, Nurse; Josie Ball, Nurse; Roselyn Robinson, Cinderella; Don Robinson, Indian; Tom Robinson, Little Boy Blue; Glare Axtens Flower Girl; Margaret Sinclair,
Fairy; Nita White, Cupid; Annette. Boxes of chocolates for competition were won by Richard Rulf and Mrs Wylde and another Monte Carlo dance was won lay Jim Black -and Dick Robinson.
During the evening “Father Christmas” arrived, and was looking very fit and took great pleasure in presenting the many gifts on the Christmas Tree to the children and mothers present and to others who bad helped with the. function. To the teachers Mr Vant and Mrs. Wylde, great credit is due to them for the way the evening was carried out and the way in which the children performed the folk dances etc. A most enjoyable supper was served by the social committee and all present received ice creams and sweets.
Mr Mottram, Chairman of the School Committee, presented special prizes won during the year, and also prizes and trophies won on Calf Club day and a Challenge Cup for the best reared calf was given by Mr
Ron Macdonald and was won by Jimmy Black. Mr Mottram took the opportunity to thank one and all for their ea-operation and help during the past year and to all those who helped to make the breaking-up function the success it was.
Waimana Function
The Waimana School breaking up took the form of a Christmas party and dance and was held in the Waimana. Hall which had been nicely decorated with palms, flowers ami Christmas decorations. As one entered the hall the first thing seen f was a beautiful Christmas tree hanging with gifts and pretty decorations, and the gay paper hats children and adults wore added to the brightness of the scene.
The function commenced with the Grand March and a great number of the children were in fancy cos,-
..mes. Folk dancing, musical parcels and Monte Carlo dances were enjoyed by the children the folk dances being very well done by the children and received great applause. Just before supper Father Christmas arrived in his bright red robe etc. and was very pleased to see so many children and parents and friends p'resent and was soon at work presenting gifts to the children from the tree and to the teachers, Mr and Mrs Heather and Miss Tizard, who had helped so much to make the function such a happy one. Mr and Mrs King supplied the
mus'C for dancing for tile children and adults, and Mr Heather and Mr Wylde carried out the duties of M.C.

Tile children’s Monte Carlo was won by Annette Ruff and Mick RulL A delicious supper orange drinks, ice creams and sweets were served to all. Dancing was then continued by the adults until a late, hour when the National Anthem closed a greatly enjoyed evening.
