PAROA DRAWS WITH WHAKATANE UNITED
The final for th c . Collins Shield! took place on the Whakatane Du,«| main and after a most interesting game resulted in a draw. Wliakatane liad first use of the wicket opening with Crawford and Fisher and 4.1 runs were put on before Crawford was well caught by (Milam. McKenzie came in next and another good partnership took place taking the score to 11)9 before McKenzie was caught behind oil' Gillam. Fisher continued to bat solidly and with Rivctt as a partner took the score to 124 before Fisher was clean bowled by Gillam. He had batted well for 64 runs. The only other batsman to score double figH ures was Roach who scored 15 and Whakatane was all out just on the luncheon adjournment with "a sound total of 17(i runs. Paroa bowling was sound throughout while the fielding was quite good. Paroa'opened after lunch facing
the big total of 17(> runs to get in just over two hours. Grant and Martin opened but lost Grant with the score at 14. A good partnership between Martin and Goile then took place neither batsmen taking 'any chances and 52 runs were on before Martin was out lbw. He had played a very good innings. Time was now against Paroa it being impossible to get the runs in the time. Their only chance was to play for a draw which they managed to do and when time was called Paroa haci 7 wickets down for 87 runs.
Waimana stored an eight point in over Edgccumbe by default which places them level with Whakatane and Paroa for the Collins Shield, a replay being necesary. The bowling for Whakatane was steady while the fielding was good giving very few runs away. WAIMANA v PAROA In a competition game played at Waimana a first innings win was scored by Paroa. Paroa batted first and scored 85 runs J the double figure scorers being Martin 13 land Smith 14, McGougan 12 and Goile 16 not out. , Waimana fared even worse and were all out for 58 runs the only batsmen to score, double figures being Wells who scored 30. Paroa again went to the wicket and this time [(did, better making 90 for six wickets before declaring, leaving Waimana 118 runs to get for an outright win. In Paroa's second innings Collins 16: Smith Goile not out; 26 and H. Grant not out 16 batting well. When time was called Waimana had lost 4 wickets for 44 runs leaving Paroa the winners on the first innings. The bowling and 'fieldinjg on both sides was quite good. Results:— PAROA (Ist innijngs)
