CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

INTERESTING DEBATE PROMISED

CHRISTIANITY & COMMUNISM

As a diz*ect result of the controy ersy appearing in this paper undej the heading 'Whither Bound Humanity' a challenge has been issued am accepted by two correspondents wb« desire to debate publicly on the merits of Christianity and Communism, We understand that the intention of each parly is not to belittle eithei subject but rather to compare care»fully the interpretation of each in order that practical application in either case is almost a parallel.

In a letter to the Editor received last Monday, Mr C. J. Hallett, wh( has replied to Mr Gilmore (originally writing under the nom-de.-plum,€ of 'Britisher') states that he has arranged for a speaker to represent him. 4n the person of Mr Vic Wilr cox, a man who has been identified with the, expounding of Communism for many years and who has a considerable reputatj \ in this direction, In this connection Mr Halle It who explained his own inability in a previous letter to debate personally the subject, sought Mr Gilmore's permission to appoint a proxy is his stead. He has since then negotiated with Mr Wilcox who has ex r pressed his willingness to debate the whole subject in a friendly and. constructive fashion. From, what we know of Mr Gilmore we have no doubt as to his accepting the new position and wig are looking forward to a most im

teresting and informative compart son of ideas on subjects of world wide application today as never be. fore. The tentative date fixed ii January 16, and the question of th« hall or building will be determine* as soon as Mr Gilmore's availability is known.

The iccasion will be unique froH many angles and as far as we knov will afford the only positive 1 instarie of a newspaper challenge comini openly before the public to a con crete bead.
