WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
WHAKATANE MEETING A very good attendance was recorded at the December meeting of the Whakatane Women's Institute held in the Caledonian Hall on Tuesday 5 December 4. Mrs K. Stewart presided. The meeting opened with the Institute song and aspirations. The thought for the- day "Your Life Lies Before You —The Past Let it Sleep. Its lessons alone are the things you should keep." The Art Union was drawn most of the prizes going to local residents. It was proposed and seconded that Lbe Institute write to Headquarters re the sending of parcels for Unrra. Members were informed that the next Eistedfodd would be held in Whakatane in March. Mrs Moran mentioned that the last parcel sent from the Institute for the Galway Guild had arrived safely in England. Parcels were ex,changed all members receiving a novelty for Christmas. Christmas carols were sung and enjoyed by all. The Arts and Crafts Class had a very nice display of gifts for sale and Mrs Moran had a busy time, at the Bring and Buy Stall. Afternoon tea Avas served the hostesses for the day were Mesclames Prideaux Rvde Ramson, Rowan Rangi Ruslibrook Misses F. and A. Ramson. The competitions for the day were: Sweet Peas: Mrs King 1. Lettuce: Mrs Hanna 1; Mrs Murphy 2. Compliments of the season were extended to all. The National Anthem brought the meeting to a close.
