WEDDING BELLS

HARTLEY —NGAHANA . | A wedding ol' groat interest to both Maori and Pakeha friends was solemnised in the Maori Anglican Church at Lake on Saturday, December 1., when Tira 9 only daughter of Mr and Mrs W..R. Ngahana of was married to Maramatanga Hartley ? youngest son of Mr John Hartley and the late Mrs Hartley of Rata. Tire bride who is a girl ol' hijglis rank and one of the cMel'tainesses of the Tuwharetoa tribe was a member of the R.N.Z.A.F. for some years. She wore a beautifully, cut gown of white embossed crepe and she carried a sheaf of white and cream roses. Her embroidered veil j was attached to her hair by a matching spray of roses. She was attended by her : two eou,sins ? Misses N. Grace as chief bridesmaid and K. Hcuheu as assisting maid. They were frocked alike in gowns of French marquisette Miss Grace wearing pale green and carrying a sheaf of cream roses while Miss Heuheu wore pale pink and carried a sheaf of pink roses. The bridegroom who returned from service overseas about eighteen months ago, and who is also a nepr hqw of Mrs P. A. (Jrace, was attended by Messrs W. Pi re re as best man and G. Taiuru as groomsman. The ceremony was performed by the Rev, H. Rangiiliu of the T'aupo Anglican Maori Mission, who was assisted by ithe Rev. W. R. Eraser of thij.Tokaanu Presbyterian Maori Mission. The church was beautifully decorated with white lillies roses and native greenery. A reception to about 300 guests was held at the Hirangi Pa w r here speeches were rendered by the local chiefs, and leaders according to the ancient customs of the Maori race in honour of the bridal party. On behalf of the many European, friends present, Mr J. W. Durward Headmaster of the TokaanuTurangi Native School, conveyed the hearty good wishes of the Pak.eha community to the young couple. In the course of the evening a dance was held in the Hirangi Hall.
