HOLIDAY ATTRACT lON S Perhaps the best selection of pictures that has ever been screened in Whakatane over a holiday period lias been booked by the management of the Regent Theatre, for the Christmas and New Year. On Christmas Eve ? December "Song of the Open Road" is being featured. It is a well known show with Charlie McCarthy and Edgar Bergen in the lead, and is bound to appeal. "Tar/an and the Amazons" is screening for the 10 p.m. session only. "The Desert Song/' as the name implies is a film of the desert. It is in teelinicolour, and will be screened on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. "Hangover Square/' on Thursday and Friday 27 and stars Laird Cregar (remember him in 'The Lodger' ?). It is a horrifying mystery written by the author of 'Gaslight.' "Cover Girl" is one that man}' 1 see twice. Rita Haywortb and Gene Ivelly (star of 'Thousands Cheer') carry the musical lead. It is an excellent show. "White Cliffs of Dover,s one of the leading films of the year is booked for the first four nights in January . It is followed by 'TIU Walk Beside You" on the 7th and Bth, a picture which enjoyed -an outstanding season in Auckland. "Take It Or Leave It" is the picture for December 9, 10 and ll t while the All-Star attraction "Since You Went Away" completes a four day season' from December 12 to 16. It will be noted that the above pictures are. all first class releases. Actually they need no publicity in this town, as their outstanding success in city theatres has built for them a reputation—many of them indeed, are pictures which theatregoers have been waiting for months to see. With the above iilms patrons are assured of a constantly high standard of entertainment over the holidays .
