GARAGE ENTERED
PETROL COUPONS TAKEN Thieves broke into the premises of Messrs Armstrong and Go's garage in Commerce Street at an early hour yesterday raorning } and succeeded in .stealing a number oi' redeemable petrol coupons. The two intruders escaped through the rear, and vanished in a black sedan when surprised at their work by the night watchman Mr A. Ivinnaird. The burglars entered the garage through one of the front by breaking the glass panel, and reaching through to l-elease the Yale lock. The which was on a table immediately inside was empty and open. The small tin box, used lor coupons and which was locked with a padlock was standing nearby. This was forced open, and the coupons extracted. The men continued, and ransacked some of the offices, forcing one of the doors in the same anner. Nothing of value was taken, and the safe was not touched. In the rear, where repairs are carried out, the keys were taken from several cars. It was, while the thieves were engaged' in the garage that they were surprised. Co-incident with the above, two premises at Taneatua were entered on Wednesday nighty possibly by the same persons responsible for the incident in Whalsatane. At Mr W. H. Semmens' garage, thieves broke in and stole 14 gallons of benzine. Entrance was also gained to Mr R. S. Rickett's shop from which a quantity of clothing was removed.
ARRESTED AT RUATORIA
TWO YOUNG MEN HELD ; The. -police arrested two young men at Ruatoria yesterday afternoon and from articles in their pos-f session recovered much of the miss,ing property including the petrol coupons. They have been remanded to appear in the Gisborne Court next week.
