WHAKATANE v WAIMANA . FIRST INNINGS WIN FOR UNITED ; On Sunday last Whakatane United Cricket Club played Waimana Cricket Club on the Domain. Waimana went in and batted first with. H. Ruff and G. Mitchell the opening batsmen. A. Fisher and W. J. Me-i - Kenzie were the opening bowlers for United and kept the runs down to 2lminimum. Mitchell was hit on the hand early in the game and this , injury interfered with his play in "■ the first innings. E'. Wells put up the best score for Waimana before being bowled by L. R. Spring. Waimana were all out for 72 ruus. Spring took 6 wickets for 18 runs. Spring and W. Crawford were - the opening batsmen for United and " proved a fine partnership scoring 90 runs between them before Spring was bowled by Wells. United declared at 4 wickets for 130 runs. Waimana in the second innings fared better than in the first Mrtu ■ chell putting up a good exhibition of play. When play ceased at 3.30 p.m. Waimana were three wickets down for 93 runs.
