APPRECIATION FROM ENGLAND
Sir } —Our children, Jenifer and Jill Otterburn have recently returned to us after a very lengthy stay as evacuees in Whakatane and. I am writing to ask you for the privilege j through your columns, of saying a word or two to your readers j so many of whom {far too many to write to individually even if their names were, known to us) and were so kind to them during their stay in your hospitable town and country. They resided with their aunt and uncle ? Mr and Mrs Whit worthy Louvain Street Whakatane. J We s their mother and wish to record our grateful thanks to them all for their kindness and the ready hospitality and affection which was shown in so many ways to these two little girls who were about and amongst them for nearly five years. They were happy with you—we know that because although they are pleased now to be back home with us, they still talk, with evident hftppy recollections of ths Jflany things that happened 'in Wlia-* katane.' In sending these thanks to you we have in mind mostly your particular kindness and love to our particular little ones but we feel also that we are expresing the thoughts and thanks of many hundreds of other mothers and fathers to you in New Zealand and in other countries ail over the world who took our children in so readily and loved them and cared for them so well. We are sure that all who knew them will be pleased to know that they are very well and happy and settling down to their new life—and wish to be remembered kindly to all they knew. Finally may we thank you personally for your kindly welcome to the in your columns, on their arrival—it was the forerunner of a kindly spirit which lasted throughout their stay with you.
