SCHOOL FIELD DAY

[ RANGITAIKI CALF CLUB CHAMPIONS AT EDGECUMBE All roads led to Edgecumbe on Tuesday, December 4, when the first Rangitaiki Plains Combined Schools' Calf Club and Flower Show was held on the school grounds under ideal conditions. Parentis teachers and pupils from Waimana Nukuhou, Whakatane Thornton To Tcko 3 9 Awakeri Otakiri Te Haenga Paroa •J 9 9 Poroporo and Edgecumbe were present in large numbers and the show was an outstanding success. Representatives of the dairying industry the Department of Agriculture and the Education Board at tended ( and apologies were received from Messrs E. Doidge and W. Sullivan M.P's for unavoidable absence owing to Parliamentary duties. High tributes to the children's work were paid by the judges both of the stock and of the floral and handicraft sections and owing to the uniformly high standard, 1 Uhe adjudicators faced a diificult task. The condition and quality of the calves, came in for special mention from the three judges concerned. Mr A. Bell, Education Board Mem r ber for the district presented It-lie awards and congratulated school committees; teachers and children on the splendid result of their combined. efforts. Mr J. llevell, Chairman of the Rangitaiki School Calf Club, took advantage of it he opportunity on behalf of the executive to present Mr Neil Carter with an illuminated address in recognition of his outstand,ing services as an honorary judge for many years past. "No man" said Mr Rcvell, "has. done more to promote the Calf Club movement than Mr Neil Carter and his demonstrations and advice to the children have been of incalculable benefit." In a characteristic reply, Mr Cartelassured everyone that nothing had ever given him greater pleasure than his work in the Sehool Calf Clubs, and that the presentation thail after 1 noon would always be a cherished memento of a very happy association* In the Points Competition, Edge : - eumbe came first Awakeri second ■> > and miakiri third.
