NEW YEAR CALEDONIAN SPORTS

THE most ambitious programme yet put out by ai sports body in the Bay of Plenty will be run off on New Years Day at Ohope, when the Whakatane Caledonian Society will stage its second Annual Highland Gathering. The committee following the signal success of last year's sports has completely overhauled its programme, and is offering no less than £250 in prize money. The greatest emphasis is on the Highland Section, where following affiliation with the Dominion Association, two championship dances (Highland Fling and Sailors Hornpipe) will be judged. In the Piping Section, special trophies will be awarded junior pipers, whilst another feature will be the drumming competition for teams of five, from each individual band,, for which the Patterson Cup will be awarded.
