WHAKATANE v PONGAKAWA-TE PUKE WIN FOR visitors; A Representative cricket match took place on the Domain between a Whakatane eleven antl a Ponga. kawa-Te. Puke eleven and resulted in a win on the first innings for the visitors. Whakatane had first use of the wicket and opened with Roach and McGougan but before any runs had been scored Roach wa-s clean bowled by Reicl. McGougan did not last lqng and two wickets were down for 5 runs. Whakatane's batsmen could not get going and wickets fell cheaply the only batsman to score double figures lacing Gillam 17, Smith l(v Parkes 12 and Poynton 12. Whakatane were all out for 81 runs. Tlie bowling for the visitors was steady throughout Reid 5 wickets for 2'A runs and Webb 2 for 18 runs 9 getting the wickets. The visitors also started off badly Webb being bowled by Gillam with only (j runs on the board. Runs gradually came however and the innings closed at 90 runs leaving the visitors the winners on the first innings. The bowling for Whakatane was steady but owing to having short boundaries the slow bowlers Smith and Rigden were at a disadvantage and several sixes were hit that under ordinary circumstances would have been a wicket. The domain was in good order, and a good day was experienced by cricketers.
