WINTER SHOW ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT'S REPORT In the course of his annual report at the meeting of the Bay of Plentv Winter Show Association •? held. last Thursday evening the . 7 President, Mr H. G. Warren stated 7 as under:— On perusal of the Financial Statement it will be observed that the. Association has made a net loss of £85 lis 9d on the year's working, or £131 14s -Id behind the previous year.. •Depreciation amounting to £67 17s Id has been written off Buildings and Plant and repairs to Tables, Forms and Windows amounting to £55 17s 3d were carried out during the year. The loss of revenue is due to:— (1) The cancellation of the Army Department lease in June, 19-14. This brought in £6 5s per month; (2) The absence of revenue producing activities by the Association. Member's Subscriptions In June circulars were posted out to members stating the reasons for not holding a Winter Show in 1945 and requesting members to forward their dues . Actual' .subscriptions received amounted to £46 lis 6d. Tills -ligurc being £12 9s up on the previous. year. Notwithstanding the postal appeal made by the Secretary only 50 per cent, of the members -are financial.

No 1945 Show After careful consideration by Uie Executive Committee it was decided not to attempt a Winter Show in 1945. This decision was arrived at for the following reasons:—(l) Prohibition of the use of Electric Power; (2) Extreme shortage of Labour;, (3) Rationing of Cooking Materials; (4) Farmers had no time to prepare Root Crop Exhibits; (o) Rationing of Petrol and Tyres; (6) Businessmen had nothing worth placing on Exhibition. - Loan and Mercantile Co's Firb In June this Company suffered a most disastrous lire and an urgent appeal was made to me by the manager for assistance. After conferring with the Vice-Presidcnt and one or two members of the Executive Committee (who were handy at the time) the Loan Co's request for the temporary use of the Winter Show Buildings was acceded to at an agreed rental. It was unlortunat© that the Soldiers' Welcome Home Committee and Sports Organisations suffered some inconvenience but the people concerned realised under the circumstances, no other course was-'open. Confirmation of this action was made at the following general meeting held on June 21. Appeal Finally . 1 appeal most strongly to members to support their Association. Organisations such as this do a great deal for their respective districts. Besides the entertainment derived by the public generally m attending the Shows ( the exhibits are an education to the young. The whole affair livens up the community and advertises the district.
