I | BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED [ FAREWELL ALSO TENDERED J The Otakiri Hali was t lie scene of ! a very happy gat her inn recently when residents of the district and friends from other parts gathered to do honour to Mi-ss Ivy Bryant on the occasion of her approaching marriage, and also to bid farewell to a highly respected resident Mr Whalley who is leaving the district. The stage was most attractive with masses of flowers and formed a perfect background later f">r the popular bride-ta-be. The evening was spent in dancing, Mr Lord acting as M.C. an,d MrsArmstrong and Alan , kindly supplying the music. Alter a very tasty supper had been served, the. "Bridal Waltz" was I announced. This created lots of fun and was an excellent prelude to the presentations. At the end of the waltz little Doreen Barton presented Miss Bryant with a beautiful bouquet of roses and those present formed an aisle down Avhich the principle guests passed under a perfect hail of confetti to reach the stage. At this stage Mr Jessop spoke on behalf of the district and voiced the regret of all at losing so loyal a citizen as Mr Whalley. He wished him well in his retirement. Mrs Armstrong felt the honour of expressing to Miss Bryant the district's very best % wishes for her future happiness and she took the opportunity also of thanking Mr Whalley for the help he had given the Women's Organisations in so • many ways. Mr Barton, after endorsing the remarks of the previous speakers then presented Mr Whalley with an easy chair and to Miss Bryant he handed an envelope containing £20. Prolonged applause and musical honours greeted Private Green (ex P.0.W.) ou rising to reply. He very ably thanked the Otakiri people for the wonderful expressions of goodwill and hs extended bis thanks. Mr Whalley also expressed Ills thanks to his many friends and good neighbours. Dancing continued till midnight, when the singing of Auld Lang Syne brought another joll} - evening to a close. , ,
