NEW PREMISES

TRADE TRAINING EX-SERVICE-MEN

The Government has purchased the premises formerly occupied by the Love Construction Company at Miramar as a site for the teaching of building trades under the Rehabilitation Board's trade training scheme says a statement from the Rehabilitation Department. Containing approximately 15 000 square feet together with a large area that will permit of necessary extensions, the new premises are among the most recently built in the Dominion. They were erected only three years ago and include a modern joinery plant which will be used by ex-servicemen trainees. As has been proposed for some, time, a

course in joinery will now be commenced, providing for the training of 24 men a year, and for which almost 5000 square feet of the building has been set aside.

The transfer of trainees from Petone to Miramar has already taken place. The plasterers and bricklayers each have about 4000 square feet floor space of the new premises, while 2500 square feet, divided into 13 cubicles, is being used for the teaching of painting, paper hanging and glazing, the first course in

which had already been under way at Petone is taken up with lecture room and stores. The premises are already adequately served with administrative offices while there Is ample area for use as a timber yard. The carpentry trainees now at Petone arc not affected by the change.

The Miramar premises are "well lighted and ventilated. The joinery equipment Is mostly of Englishmake and is of the latest design. Tt is not intended to malce am' radical changes in, the which was erected in the first instance as a prefahrication factor}-. Trainees living away from home are having accommodation provided at the Hatnitai camp should they wish to use it.
