SCOPE LIMITED

BEE-KEEPING INDUSTRY EX-SERVICEMEN'S CHANCES The limited scope of the bee-keep-ing industry was discussed at a recent meeting ol" the Rehabilitation Board. It was reported to the board that present room lor expansion in the industry amounted to the establishment ol' 23 new units, while lour qualified ex-servicemen were at present awaiting settlefour more under training and a further nine were awaiting training. In the establishment of new holdings the main difficulty apart from the cost involved is the limited number of areas where the provision of food for the bees makes the establishment of apiaries possible. On the recommendation of the Board's Farm Advisory it was resolved that no further totally inexperienced ex-servicemen be accepted for training as apiarists without the approval of the board's executive committee. Except with the approval of the same committee, applications for assistance to become established bee-keepers will now be accepted only from men who are fully experienced and are therefore entitled to immediate "A" gradings and from such partially experienced men as were employed in the industry before the war. Ihe actual method of settlement is to be considered after an examination of cost of establishment and of anticipated revenue.
