As the State's activities are expanded in the control of credit and ownership of homes there is finally vested in this same small group of men the sole right of deciding who is to have credit food, clothing and shelter. It gives a power of liquidation which iinally has to be used } for in order to control a few things many Uiings must be controlled —to control many things all things must finally be controlled. To control all things the bodies of the people must be controlled and to control their bodies the minds and the very souls of the people must be controlled. This is Socialism or planned economy . No one advocates doing away with! State schools and social services for these arc not production and indusiry. It sounds well to talk about a centralised - authority planning for ihe good of the people. This is the illusion of Socialism. There are two powers in society; the political power vested in a ruling political party the economic power vested in the people or a portion of thei people. The one is balanced against ihe other. Actually there is only vne power the people possess over governments or rulers and that is economic power the tangible form of Avhich is private or individual ownership of the means of production distribution and exchange plus the right of the individual to plan what he does with what he owns. The wider this economic power or ownership is spread the truer ancl freer the democracy. This economic pqwer or ownership must never be allowed to pass out of the hands of the people into the hands of the State or other monopoly for the transference of such power or own* ership deprives the people of all power over governments or rulers. The government then becomes, not the servant but the master of the people and thus is created a condition of slavery.
