WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

WAIMANA-NUKUHOU MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute was held last Wednesday afternoon in the Waimana Hall. There was; a A-ery good attendance of members and seA*eral A'isilors. The meeting was presided over by Mrs HeAvitt A'ice-president. An apology was received from the Mrs Wvlde.

Before the meeting commenced Mrs Hewitt asked all present to stand in silence in respect of an invnlid member ? Mrs S. Clark who bad passed away ? also Mr Motram pioneer of the district. Tho rending of Hie motto for the day, "We Serve' 1 and the singing of the W.T. song followed. A most interesting letter was read from a member Mrs John Addison s who is at present at Mohaka. Mrs MeConncll offered to answer the letter. An appeal for certain articles for Unrra was discussed and it was decided to ask members to bring one or more articles to the next meeting and they will be sent forward. Mrs Henry Spanhake was welcomed as a new member. Mrs N. Cooper offered to take charge of the sales table at meetings. It being "International Day" impromptu speeches on different countries proved interesting and educa. -tional. The Golden Thread was given by Mrs F. Savage a reading on the A.C.M.W. It was decided to forward a telegram of congratulation* to a Mr? Stansbury who ha.s twin daughters. Two wall competition arranged by Mrs Woolfield were won by Mrs M. King: one being jumbled names of countries and their efforts and the greatest number of Avoids from the word "International" in a given time. During the afternoon a penny per member was, collected for the A.C.M.W. Mrs Hewitt then on behalf of members asked Miss E. Wardlaw to accept a small gift in appreciation of her great help with the Patriotic 'knitting during the war; Miss Wardlaw having knitted up the greatest amount of wool. The competitions resulted as follows:—Best single flower: Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs Fleming 2: Mrs H. Bell 3. Best double flower: Mrs J. Mitchell 1; Mrs I. Savage 2; Mrs F. Bell 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs T. Savage. 2; Mrs M. King 3. Cornish pastry: Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs T. Savage 2; Mrs F. Bell 3. Patriotic knitting: Mrs. Mortenson 1; Mrs F. Bell 2: Mrs I. Savage 3. Members brought many valuable and interesting articles from other which were on exhibition. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses for the day, after which Mrs Hewitt thanked the judges and hostesses and the National Anthem closed the day's meeting.
