SUM OF IN HAND PATRIOTIC COUNCIL MEETING At a full meeting of tin; Bay of Plenty Patriotic Council Zone Exetive last Thursday it was pointed out bv tlie Secretary Mr C. G. ' 9 Lucas, that approximately £ 11,000 had been collected in the district by way of Patriotic Levy and National Appeals. There was now in hand some £14 000 for administra- ? tion as a Welfare Fund for the benefit of local men returning and settling in the Whakatane district. Those present included: Mesdames T. Smith and E. IT. I'lill and Messrs J. L. .Burnett (chairman). E. F. J. Naubann A. (). S. .C Spcnce W. J. Murray, D. S. Radcliffe, C .E. Newton, L. Brown (R.S.A). B. S. Barry and 11. F. Wardlaw (deputising Mrs Wylde). In litis report the secretary stated as under: — Since the secession from Auckland riotic collecting in June 1910 collections to the 30/9/41 amounted to Is 9d. Amounts received in the same period from the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council amounted to £1749 13s 9d, making a grand total of collections while associated with Auckland of £23.409 15s Gd. Since the scission with Auckland (1/10/41.) our collections a.s a zone of the Bay of Plenty Provincial Patriotic Council have, amounted to £13,830 2s 2ri, of which l amount £0000 was paid the Bay of Plenty Provincial Patriotic Council on account of National Patriotic Fund Board quota, gift parcels etc. There are certain funds due to the Zone from the Bay of Plenty Provincial Council on account of national receipts from art unions race meetings, Grade Fields' Concert etc. Disregarding these the total amount raised in the war'period for patriotic purposes amounts to £39, - ! 239 17s Sd. Funds on hand as at the 30th September amounted to £8910 7s 3d viz. Bonds—held in Ilotorna £475; Post. Office A/c Whakatane No. 10376 £2000; National Savings A/c Whakatane No. 435121 £80'0: Union Bank Fixed Deposit No. 2595 £1000: Pass Book Balance U.B.A. Whakatane £1010/4/1 Auckland Fund Balance — held in llotorua £30313/1. £8916 7S 3d.

To this amount the Provincial Council Secretary advises there will

be a credit from the Provincial

Council account on acount of receipts from Dominion appeals and

refund of of 1914/45 quota in excess of requirements of £1703 16.5.7d f which will make the zone credit as at the 30/9/45. £10. ? 620 3s lOd. Receipts from Ist October to and including the 6th November amount to £2511 18s, which gives a grand total to the credit of the zone account of £13 165 Is lOd. As men-

tioned above £1703 16s 7d of this amount is in the-Provincial Council account No. 1. With the exception of £193 10s 5d and the. amount of £1703 16s 7d held in the Rotorua account all amounts are invested J 'in post office, savings accounts; fixed deposits, victory loans and so forth. There arc three post office savings accounts—N.o 1 10376 in the name of the Bay of Plenty Provincial Patriotic Council Whakatane Zone.— Trustees B. S. Barry and C. G. Lucas, £2000; 2. No. 10111 in the name of D. S. Mavis M. Reekie., Trustees, Edgeeumbe. £1060

National Patriotic receipts were 'issued in the last two post office accounts for the amounts of £1.1(50 14s 2d(lleo. 212) Edgeeumbe and £350 17s 7d (Rett. -26-1) Te Teko. Since the Te Teko post office, account has been received £1500 has been transferred lrom the Union Bank to the credit of such account.

The Provincial Council Secretary when advising o|' the credit in the No. 1 account of £1703 1 (is 7d—stated that the National Patriotic Fund Board had advised that there would he no National Patriotic Fund Board levy on Provincial Councils l'or th" 1 . 10-1(5 year. As a result the committee met the Opoliki committee and agreed to Opotiki's receiving £150;) of the £5131 3s Id received from Auckland. Mr Hepburn of the Government Audit Department, at the meeting's request waited on the Executive and stated that he had inspected all the Inter/one with the ex-

ception of three. All accounts inspected were in order- and were; a credit to the Interzone Committees. The accounts of Ngatiawa Ruatoki and Ruatahuna Committees were still under investigation. Interzone Committees still holding funds were Matata £648 14s -id,. Ruatoki £327, Taneatua £3 15s Id and Te Teko £2 16s Id.

Mr Naumann stated that at a publie meeting held at Matata. it was resolved to pay in the jmtriotic funds held by Matata Patriotic Interzone Committee provided such funds were expended on welfare. The Matala Committee also asked if funds could be allocated to it for expenditure on welfare in the Matata district.

The- following decision was unanimously agreed upon;—" That for the ensuing year, Central Welfare Committee be constituted viz. one member from each of the following:—

R.S.A.. Red Cross and this Executive with whom will be associated

as a Welfare Committee member a delegate from the Interzone Patriotic Committee from which the welfare application emanates —that such committee appoint its own hon. secretary and treasurer —that such committee be given an imprest, of £100 —that Sir B. S. Barry be this executive's representative on such Central Welfare Committee."

It was deckled that the 1915/16 meetings be held before each ordinary Provincial Council meeting. Mr J. L. Burnett was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year and Messrs Burnett, B. S. Barry and C. G. Lucas appointed Provincial Council delegates. Mr Lucas was reelected as Secretary and Treasurer.
