ANNUAL MEETING

WHAKATANE GOLF CLUB

PAST SEASON REVIEWED

The 31 st Annual General Meeting of the Whakatane Golf Club was held in the County Council Chambers on Thursday ? November 8 at S p.m. with nn attendance, of thirty members.

The president's report was read by Mr Spence_ owing to the unavoidable absence of Mr Luxton. It stated that Avith the. termination of the war and easing of certain restrictions such as import of golfing material a bright future for the club ay as and hoped to see a considerable increase in membership to offset the increase in expenditure to Avhicli the club was committed, and to help tlfe course in it's present condition. The course and the greens in particular the report stated, had rcached a very high standard and were very favourably commented on by the visitors to the last tournament. The thanks of the club were due to Mr and Mrs Fen- 1 nell caretakers and to Mr Stubbs superintendent. It was hoped to have both Wednesday and Saturday as club days next year which would overcome any congestion. Tt was-also hoped to have more intcrclub matches next season. The balance sheet disclosed a small profit for the year. The officers elected for the ensuing year were: — President: L. Lnxton. Vice-presidents: S. C. Spcnce and A. E. Powdrell. Captain: J. G. Connell. Hon. Treasurer: C. A. Suckling. Hon. Secretary: H. 15. Stubbs. Committee: N. Hockln ? L. R. Spring. W. D. Steel and F. R. Combes.Auditor: R. Mollgaard. It Avas resolved to approve of-ft recommendation of the outgoing committee to increase the members' subscriptions by one guinea for men and half a guinea for ladies. A hearty vote of thanks w T as given to the ladles for their help during the season. Mr Spring said he personally would like to show his appreciation of what the ladies had done, and 9 'promised to. donate a cup for the lady who reduced her handicap most during next season. A special vote of thanks to car owners for gettirg members out to the links, and to the. Press for publishing the reports of the club during the season concluded the meet- ' 9 ing.
