SMASH AND GRAB
JEWELLER'S WINDOW BROKEN RED CROSS WATCH STOLEN! At an early hour this a smash and grab raid was carried out at Mr A. G. Allan's, jeweller's. shop ? the Strand and the ladies wristlet watch which was being oilered by Mr Allan on-behalf of the fled Cross for competition, was stolen. Noth-> ing else in the window was touched. It is. assumed that the thief smashed the window with his boot ■ He left a gaping hole in the, lower right hand corner through which he was able to reach with ease to extract the watch which was the only one in the window. A large amount of silver and other articles was not touched. It is understood that the watch which was- ,stqlen } was not the actual watch which is being offered for but a 'make shift until the proper one arrived. It was valued at approximately £2 15s. Mr Allan intends accepting the loss, himself in order that the Red Cross shall not lose the money which has already been paid in. Police are at present making enquiries.
