AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE

SOUTH AUCKLAND PROPOSAL REPRESENTATIVE MEETING HELD A meeting of all interested for the purposes of discussing the. proposed scheme to ercct an Agricultural High School to serve the South Auckland was held in the Caledonian Hall last Tuesday evening. His Worship the Mayor Mr B. S. Barry ? was! in the chair extended a welcome to Messrs J. McWhannell # G. Shortland Bell and Bowyer of the Auckland' Education Board ' together with Supervisors from the Agricultural Messrs H. V. Mountfort and J. De.nnehy, who addressed the meeting. There was an attendance of approximately l'orly j with; the country districts fully represented. The members from the Education Board were, in the nature of a subcommittee which has been delegated the task of touring the Bay of Plenty and King Country for the purpose, of holding meetings such as Tuesday and ascertaining public opinion on the matter. When the project had been numerous questions were answered, and the enthusiasm which greeted the proposal was unmistakeable. A resolution expressing the meeting's approval of the scheme was carried unanimously.

At the suggestion of the sub-com-mittee' a local committce was fornred. Those elected to this latter committee were Messrs G. Lord H. D. Wardlaw and Vickery, whose job it will be to endeavour to loe-ate an area of approximately y<)() acres suitable lor an Agricultural College. It was explained that each district is being asked to recommend an area, and the final selection will be made by the Auckland Education Board.

A petition was also presented by the and the names,of those present were attached. In this manner it is hoped to be able to show that a representative section of the people in the areas concerned are behind the project. H is understood that the number of probable pupils is increasing rapidly.
