CONTROL EASED
CYCLE TYRES AND TUBES
25 PER CENT. INCREASE
Welcome advice." that the restrictions covering the issuing of permits
for cycle tyres and tubes have been eased to the extent that 25 per cent more of these articles are now available has been received through the 9 Gisborne Bicycle Tyre and Tube Rationing Committee.
In conveying this information to the committee t.he factory controller Mr G. A. Pascoe, stated that although physical stocks of crude rubber held by the rubber mills at present were low a shipment of rubber allocated by the Combined Raw Material Board London was > ' due to arrive in, New Zealand during November. "This enables me to ease the restricted supply of cycle covers and tubes and no doubt your committee will be pleased to have the news " commented Mr Pascoe. Methods to attain this objective with the least delay and inconvenience have been drawn up. These include the widening of the priority list taking in new categories as priorities. Effective Immediately The increase will become effective immediately. Although' the November quota lias already been sent out } dealers are to increase it by 25 per cent. This increase is for standard covers and tubes manufactured in New Zealand and does not apply to i juvenile and odd sizes imported from the United Kingdom, which are still in short supply. The December quota will be similarly increased. The committee has been asked' by the controller to treat applications involving personal hardship as favourably as possible, especially from (1) returned servicemen, even if their application does not come quitestrictly within the priority (2) freezing farm and other l'ood producing workers and (3) apprentices whose wages are small and for whom conveyance fares are a consideration. To Be Reviewed •
"When the Combined Raw Mater_ ial Board advises the New Zealand allocation of crude rubber for 19-16 the position will again be reviewed '* Mr Pascoe said.
He thanked the committee for the help it had and .stated that there was a good prospect that restrictions on the production of cycle tyres and tubes would be lifted early in the New Year.
"It is my desire also that the committee uses its discretionary powers more freely than before when the situation was so much more serious', * concluded Mr Pascoe.
