JEWRY
ANTI-JEWISH riots breaking* out in Cairo over the weekend have provided yet another illustration of the world-wide hatred felt for the much persecuted Jewish race.. Possibly within the last twenty years, or, in other words, from the rise of Adolph Hitler, more Jews have been liquidated than , in any such period in their history. The Fuehrer himself, is known to have openly boasted that in his campaign to make the Jewish nation extinct, he destroyed upwards of twenty- . five millions. That the turbulent anti-Jewish feeling is not confined to Nazi Germany is borne out by the high tempered attitude of the Arabs in Palestine,, of the Egyptians in Cairo, of the Latin South American States, and of many of the European nationalities beyond the pale of Hitler's influence. Only the Anglo-American peoples appear to be unable to understand the reason for the continued persecution of the wandering landless race. The dark prophecy emanating from the Christian Bible is usually quoted as the excuse for this senseless and ceaseless persecution of Jewry, and yet such a statement would appear to be the very antithesis of the Christian training to 'love ye one another/ There is a deeper and more profound cause for the stigma attaching the Jew, and it lies deep in the material bed of the modern commercial world.. Its roots are invariably found in the financial control wielded by a secretive group of a comparative few. The Jew has a natural capacity for finance. His shrewedness of insight into monetary intricacies is truly astounding, and leads him to regard his Gentile neighbours as mere children in the handling of their own currencies. It has been noted that wherever the Jew has gained the upper hand, either by his pet calling, usury, or by monopolistic control;, he has almost invariably shown a cruel and intolerant attitude towards his victims.. By nature, distinctly parasitical, he shines when battening on to a nation's financial superstructure with out finding the necessity for manual work. Almost overnight, from the penniless peddler of knick-knacks, he can become the aggressive capitalist. These reasons, have no doubt served to create that mistrust which is so generally felt towards him- Careful and thrifty, he has amassed the world's greatest fortunes. Bigoted and intolerant, he maintains his racial blood so that it remains unpolluted throughout the world. This is the general conception of the Jew at large, yet although it is popular,, it is with regard to the great mass of common Jewry, an entirely mistaken one. The Jew has been judged more or less by his successful comperes in finance. But there exists an impoverished mass of Jews behind the gilded few who present the dazzling front to humanity. Tens of thousands live literally in the gutter. Tens of thousands more, are moder j . ate, everyday citizens, indistinguishable from their Gentile companions in all walks of life. Again, Jewry has given some of the world's best brains in all avenues of the sciences and arts. England has cause to be grateful for the great Disraeli, Germany for Mozart. Only in America does he today appear to be following the usual trend of grasping futility. There,, Jewish combines and Jewish sponsored financial rings appear to be testing the course of the very nation. But it must be borne in mind that wherever the popular outburst is measured against the offending capitalists mob vengeance invariably inflicts suffering and death upon countless innocents.,. Thus the problem of Jewry and its future confronts the world as a major problem which must be solved.
