WAIMANA NEWS
WELCOME HOME DANCE
The Welcome Home dance held, in the Waimana Hall last Thursday evening was very well patronised, dancers being present I'rom both Opotiki and Wha'katane. The dance music was supplied by Mr and Mrs King and Mr A. Bell obliged with an extra. Mr Angus filled the position of M.C. most capably. The novelty dances were as popular as ever, After supper Mr J. L,. Burnett welcomed the guests of the evening—men who had returned i'rom overseas service with the fighting forces. Ml- Burnett stated that it gave him great pleasure to extend a welcome to them and on behalf of the county and thanked them for all they had done. The speaker wished them the best of luck in the future. He then asked the men to accept a wallet and an envelope and its contents from the county and all present as a small token of appreciation. The guests present were. Flying Officer A. Addison, Pilot Officer F. Privates R. Bell and W. Wilson. The guests unable to at. tend were Private D. Stubbing, Cpl M. Private M. Ipo (P.O.W) Private Te Matai Rua (P.0.W.) Private Tane Wharekuia and Ordinary Seaman Jim Boynton.. The Soldiers and Airmen present each in turn thanked all for the gift and pleasant evening accorded them and special thanks were extended to members of the AVomen's Institute for the many parcels received. The gathering then joined in singing "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows" in great spirit and dancing continued until a late hour.
