PREFERENCE TO BE GIVEN ' COUNTY COUNCIL'S DECISION", The Whakatane County Co an, cil hag decided to formulate a specific policy in future with regard to the purchase of plant j and material which, is that wherever possible preferential treatment shall be given to British made goods. - , Speaking on the .subject Cr Hunter said that now the council was making enquiries into the purchase of new plant he would like, 'o see British-made goods given every pre* feren.ee. The Chairman said be was in full agreement. Unfortunately there were however certain types of ma. chinery which were not suitable for New Zealand but where ever possible he thought British goods should be purchased. Cr McCready said lie understood that financial arrangements between England and America had once more broken down and it was up to the colonies to give all the trade possible to the Old Country, ft was eventually going to help the Empire., Cr Hunter warned that New Zealand should cultivate English roodwill. Denmark had already .exported 26 000 tons of butter to Britain since r the armistice, and intended to export tons next year. It was in New Zealand's interests to patronise the English manufacturers.
