MEETING AT AWAKERI The Awakeri Branch of the Wo. men's Division of the Farmers' Union held its monthly meeting in the Awakeri Hall on October 16 when Mrs Haultain presided over a good attendance. A reply to a request for better facilities for the travelling public at Edgecumbe Railway Station was received from the Minister, of Railways. It was proposed to provide three lights for the move the signal wires back to the bound-' ary fence, and raise the surface of the area at the North end, of the platform to rail level for a distance of 90 yards. This work when com. pleted will provide a landing -space six feet wide clear of the carriages and signal wires and make conditions much easier for passengers using the station. Mrs C. Hallett of Otakiri s?ave j ' a most interesting and helpful demonstration on floral work. The finished shoulder spray and posy were much admired. A competition identifying native leaves was won by Mrs Hallett. The monthly competitions were won as follows:—Best flower: Mrs Brizzle 1; Mrs McKenzie; Mrs' Wilson 3. Best fruit: Mrs Haultain 1; Mra McGougan 2; Mrs Brizzle 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Haultain 1; Mrs N. Macdonald 1; Mrs H. Jensen. 3. Afternoon tea concluded a most enjoyable afternoon.
