GAY EDGECUMBE GATHERING
Edgecumbe Hall was the scene of much' gaiety last Tuesday night when a dance .Avas held in honour of recently returned soldiers. The committee displayed much thought and effort in their choice of decorations and the floor was in splendid order for dancing. Controlled by Mr J. H. Russell in his capacity ol' M.C. >roeeedings were, uninterrupted and music for dancing was provided by the Premier Band. Mr D. S. Radclifl'c, in extending a welcome to the guests; expressed his appreciation of their past efforts and fighting qualities and pleasure at their return. Mr lan B. Gow speaking for the R.S. A. } extended goodwill to fellow diggers and invited the guests to join the R.S.A. who were at all times ready to help all returned sold iers. Following enthusiastic musical honours Lieut. Col. C. A. Le Lievre replying expressed warm thanks for the welcome extended and said all [ servicemen were now looking forward to once, again entering wholeheartedly into the community life. Col. Le Lievre paid to the Red Cross a particularly warm tribute for their aid to the prisoners of war. Only those who. had known the rigours of German camps would know the gratitude with which food parcels were received and undoubtedly "they saved the lives of many. Concluding, Col. Le Lievre asked for continued support of the Red Cross whose humanitarian work was carried on in peace as well as war. Dancing continued until an early hour during which a novelty dance was won by Mr and Mrs C. T. Plank.
