PURCHASE OF LAND FOR EX-
SERVICEMEN
AREA TAKEN TO DATE
"The tempo all round Is increasing as far as land purchase for exservicemen goes" said the Minister of Hon. C. F. Skinner, at the last meeting of the Rehabilitation Board. The Minister was speaking with reference to the monthly report on land purchase activity which., disclosed that a total acreage of almost 185,000 had been acquired by the Crown" for servicemen settlement until August 31 last. Of the above area, 145191 acres was purchased under the provisions of the Small Farms Act (1932-33) 5 includinb 8382 acres acquired compulsorilv under Part II of the Servicemen's .Settlement and Land Sales Act. In addition the number of properties taken for the same purpose under Section 5(1 of the Lanif Sales Act totalled 137. Of these 9S were single units and 39 were capable of sub-division into 99 units making a total of 197 units obtained. The total area of these, units was 39- 725 or an average of 200 acres a unit. Properties recently acquired under the provisions of the Small Farms Act comprise almost 4100 acres (providing five units) at Patoka in the Hawke's Bav Land Dis--9 trict 151 acres at Puni in North ■> ' Auckland, and 17 acres at Tirnu, in the Auckland Land District. The last-named is to be conjoined with a property taken under Section 51 ? the whole to be. sub-divided into four or possibly five units.
