ALEDONIAN INTERESTS
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Whakatane Caledonian Society last Monday evening when the Chief } Mr W. J. Simons, reviewed one of the most progressive years in the Society's history. The report which appearselsewhere was read and adopted with the balance sheet which showed a credit of £32 5s 6d. The'election of officers resulted:— Patron: Mr J. Grant. Chief: Mr W. J. Simons. Chieftains: Messrs D. Paterson and TeH. Fergusson. Secretary and Treasurer: Mr W. G. Hurst. Pipe Major: Mr D. Paterson. Committee: Messrs Naden Matthews, H. C. B. Hay and Mesdames J. Martin and J. King. Chaplain: Rev. H. Bell. Social Committee: Messrs D. Hovvat, H. C. Hay and Mesdames J. King Snr. and Jnr. } C. Hay and Miss M. Howat It was recommended to the incoming committee that steps be talcen to erect a suitable roll of honour to the memory of those members who served overseas and to those who made the supreme sacrifice.
A special motion was carried to the .effect that a letter of greeting go forward to Mrs Simons from the meeting wishing her well during her holiday. Mr Keith Fergusson read a brief report of the activities of the Band which he said had as in the past played an important part in the social and municipal life of the community. The question of electing officers; to represent the Young Caledonian's Club was left in the hands of the executive. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
