whakatane golf club CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES The finals over 36 holes. were '» » „ played last Sunday lor the Senior, Intermediate and Junior championships. The. day was bright and warm with a fair breeze during the afternoon . The Senior Championship was won by N. Hockin who beat S. Spence 6 and 4. Hockin well deserved his win. In the morning he went out in 39 registering bogey figures on every hole except the second where he took, a live. He came in in 39 also after a slight difficulty with a tree at the eleventh. He stood live up at lunch time, and continued to finish the match on the 14th in the afternoon round. K. Milne won the Intermediate Championship from N. Ducker by 3 and 2. When six down and ten to play Ducker made a great run winning four holes in succession. Milne got one back at the thirteenth but lost the fourteenth to a birdie 2. A win for Milne, on the fifteenth made him dormic 3 and the match ended on the sixteenth green. In the Juniors F. Moody proved too good for J. Denham. Moody played sound golf throughout and won 8 and 7. Labou;r Weekend The club will held heir usual Labour Day Tournament over the coming weekend. On Saturday the qualifying round for the Open Cham, pionship will be played. Play will commence at 12 o'clock and the players will be sent off in threes from number one and number ten tees. About forty visitors have already forwarded their entries a.nd tlicy are still coming in ; with fine wea ther a really good meeting should be assured.
LADIES' GOLF NO WEEKEND PLAY Owing to the men's Labour Weekend Tournament commencing on Saturday afternoon there will be no golf for lady members tomorrow. Good weather prevailed last weekend and good cards were, returned. The winners of the Flag matches were: A: Mrs Dewar 92—21, 71; B: Mrjj Trask 10:J —29, 74; G: Miss Todman 114. Matches played at the weekend resulted as follows: — B Championship: Mrs Musett beat Miss Winstone; G Championship: Miss Robins beat Miss Reynolds 3 and 2 1 up. Consolation Flight: Mrs Tras'k beat Mrs Barry; Cham, pionsbip Flight: Mrs Sloane beat Mrs Dallas; Flight B: Miss. Otley beat Mrs Jarrett. Helpers who are unable to arrange their own transport for Labour weekend kindly ring Mrs Winstone before the weekend. Rotorua Visit A team of 17 lady players from the Rotorua Club will visit the links on Thursday next y 25th instant for an inter.club match. A list of names and handicaps has been ( received by the committee who would like as many local players as possible to turn up on that day. TE TEKO NOTES SEASONAL RESULTS The Te Teko Golf Club's first season of play came to a close on Sunday last. Members played a Canadian Mixed Foursome competition in the morning followed by long driving approaching and putting after lunch. The Mr L. B. Smithy made a short speech in which he thanked all members for their co. operation throughout the year. He then called on Mrs Smith to present the club prizes. The Club Captain, Mr T. Slacken thanked Mr and Mrs Smith for the work they had put into getting the club started. He also thanked the ladies committee for providing afternoon teas during the season.
