ROWING SEASON
OPENING DAY FUNCTION ARRANGEMENTS FOR SUNDAY WEEK Rowing enthusiasts and supporters will he pleased to learn that elaborate plans are being made' for the Olficial Opening Day, to lie held on Sunday October 28, at 2 ji.m. when present day and veteran oarsmen will be well catered for. , Prospects for the 1945/46 season are bright, and it is anticipated that at least six crews will take part ? while about four boats will take the water manned *by old rowers of past years. A similar event held two seasons, ago delighted the crowd and a treat of the same type should prove a big •draw on the 28th. The committee will be making every endeavour to entertain the public in the periods between races when it is hoped to stage novelty events for the benefit of children, and suitable diversions for adults. A Ipud speaker will keep every one posted on the progress of and a buffet tea will be served during the afternoon. In this connection, the officers of the club will be pleased to receive donations of cakes etc. from, members and -all those interested. Past oarsmen arc urgefd to come forward on opening day, and take ax part in sending off the new season to a flying start. The return of several members from overseas will give everyone an opportunity to welcome Ihem at their old and ■an aquatic carnival- of this type in Whakatane should be well attended.
