More than 4UOU ex-servicemen with intentions ol' settling on the land had been graded by their Rehabilitation Farming Sub-committees until August 31. last ? states the monthly review of the. Rehabilitation Department. Of tliesc ? a total of 2653 returned men and 34 home-service-men had been given their "A" gradings lor immediate settlement on procuring suitable properties. A further 632 returned men and 12 home-scrvicemen had been graded as partialis l - experienced but in need of further training and 253 were listed as totallj' inexperienced but suitable for training. Of the 2657 graded J'or immediate settlement 837 have been assisted oil farms of their own, plus 280 who were established before the grading system was introduced, making a total of 1117. There still remain j however 1850 men awaiting although this includes 99 men who are employed by the Lands and Survey Department on development blocks with the promise of titles. Of the 4060 ex-serviceYncn so far 1753 have been for dairy 817 for sheep 552 for mixed farming, 323 for sheep and agri. 100 for horticulture and market gardening, 83 for poultry farming } 72 for fruity 62 for -farmlets 30 for tobacco and hops 25 for 25 for agriculture and seven for pig farming. There were at the end of August 113 approved farmers who were awaiting ex-servicemen trainees, With 105 trainees approved for immediate placement. Altogether there were 430 ex-servicemen undergoing some form of farm training at that date, of whom 302 were working on a subsidy basis with private employers, 103 were taking courses at Massey or Lincoln Colleges and 25 were at the Wairarapa and Homewood. training farms. Those who bad completed training as at August 31 numbered 347 ? while 69 had failed to complete their training terms.
