CRICKET SEASON OPENS UNITED DEFEAT OPOTIKI The Whakatane United Cricket Club wa& successful in its tirst game of the season at Opotiki on Sunday. Ideal conditions prevailed. Play commenced at 10.30 a.m. with Opotiki hatting. R. K. Mason } captain of the. Opotiki team made the best score for Opotiki with 21 runs. Opotiki were all out lor 13. United commenced play at 11.45 a.m. and. adjourned at 12.1.5 p.m. for luncheon. After luncheon play commenced again and after a good innings United were all out for 129 runs. W. J. McKenzic. and W. Crawford put up the best scores offj 43 and 24 runs respectively. Opotiki in the second innings were 9 men down for 51 runs at 3 p.m. when play ceased. Afternoon tea was provided for hy the ladies and altogether a very enjoyable day was spent. Mr N. McG. Bremner manager of the United team, expressed his and the team's appreciation of the day. Mr N. E. Rigden ? Captain of the United team also expressing his gratitude to the 'Opotiki team and the ladies for their very able assistance.
