REFUSED TO BE BORN
A lamb which through some mischance failed to ho born at the nor,mal time on the Massey Agricultural College ['arm this season, continued to grow for another 20 to 10 days until the strain killed the mother. This ewe was running \\;ith the ram between .March 10 and 151 and died 5 5 while carying her lamb on September 17. Pregnancy luul therefore lasted for between 170 and 1.90 days, as against the normal duration of 117 days. The. lamb when taken dead from the ewe weighed 241b compared with the normal birth-weight average of about 10lb. it measured 25 inches from head to tail and 18 inches in height. Normal lambs take about three weeks to double their birth-weight of 101]) and up to another fortnight to reach 211b. It therefore appears probable, that the actual duration of pregnancy was nearer 1!)0 day.s than 170. The mother was a .six vear Romnev ewe in lamb to a Romney ram.
