DISTRICT COMMITTEE FORMED FOUR NEW TROOPS _ i The fifth annual meeting of the Whakatane Girl Guides Association was held last Saturday in thfe Methodist Hall } King Street. The. mceU ing was* very well attended there being ladies present from all parts of the Whakatane County. It was decided to enlarge the local committee into a District Committee by adding the following representatives from outlying places:-— Mrs Roberts and Mrs Jensen (Awa_ keri); Mrs Cowie and Mrs Mayo (Edgecumbe); Mrs Semmens and Mrs Gardner (Taneatua). Mrs Sutcliffe was re-elected president, Mrs vice-pre-sident and Mrs H. W. Brabant secretary and treasurer. A letter from the Provincial Commissioner, Mrs Balfour, was read by the president congratulating s the new Whakatane District Commissioner Mrs Ruslibrook on the won--9 f derful work she has done in the short since her appointment, and the excellent progress made. Mrs Rushbrook reported that new Girl Guide Companies and Brownie Packs had recently been formed at Awakeri ? Taneatua, Edgecumbe and Te Teko, and that their ranks were Idling rapidly. She also commented on the enthusiasm of both the Guides and the members of the new companies at the various centres. This was confirmed by the reports received by the committee from Miss , •Cain and Mrs captain -and Brown Owl, respectively of Awakeri Company: Miss Beere ? captain Taneatua; Miss Boon Brown Owl, Whakatane; Miss Mayo Edgecumbe. Mrs Rushbrcok spoke of the help and close co-operation she had received from the committee and gave special thanks to the president Mrs Sutcliffe. In the course of transferring the Scout movement to the County System in the Whakatane area, Mrs Rushbrook Avas appointed Guide Representative on the General ComJiiiitee. A vote of thanks was accorded Miss Jocelyn for her work in carrying on as Captain of the Whakatane. Company, in a temporary capacity. Miss M. Righton has since been appointed to that position. The meetftig had the pleasure of witnessing an assembly of the Brownie Pack which was followed J by the ceremony of enrolment of Guides. This was conducted by the Commissioner. At the conclusion of the a very enjoyable afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the committee.
